Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School is held for one week in early June each year. VBS is held Monday-Friday from 8:15-11:45am. This ministry is open to all children from Pontiac and the surrounding communities from 3 years old through 6th grade. Planning for each year begins in January as curriculum becomes available.

VBS is staffed with dedicated volunteers who act as teachers, aides, group leaders, site leaders, nursery staff, kitchen staff and assistants for arts & crafts. Volunteers are also sought to aid in creating and setting yp decorations, donations of needed materials, and prayer for the ministry. In 2009, there were 86 volunteers with approx. 35-40 in attendance each day of VBS. In 2012, we had 230 kids registered with an average attendance of 174. Many people are able to volunteer on a daily basis, but more are only available a day or two during the sesion. Everyone is welcome to volunteer any time that they have prior to or during VBS to make this ministry successful.

All children partcipate in the opening and closing portions of VBS each day. The children from 3 years old through Kindergarten are in a classroom based program for VBS, while the older children partcipate in a site based rotation. All children participate in musis and arts & crafts throughout the two-week session.

A mission project is undertaken each year. To encourage participation, a contest is held with the class/group donating the most to the project winning a reward, such as a pizza party. On the last day of VBS, the children and theor families are invited to attend a program that allows the students to sing the songs they have learned as well as to present the key points from the lessons they have learned.
